Established in 1889 and with an official population of just 2,019 (2006 census), Windermere is one of the most sought after addresses in all of Central Florida. Located in the western portion of Orange County – it boasts some of the most luxurious and upscale communities in all of Florida - including Isleworth.  Sports figures such as Tiger Woods, as well as actors, medical professionals, real estate developers and CEOs make their home in the Windermere area.  Since the city limits total only one square mile, it is common for many of the upscale subdivisions there to be outside the official city limits but utilize the Windermere postal service.

The desirable Butler Chain of Lakes runs through the heart of the Windermere area and is a center point of its recreational and scenic offerings.  Consisting of eleven spring fed lakes including: Lake Blanch, Lake Butler, Lake Chase, Lake Down, Lake Isleworth, Lake Louise, Lake Sheen, Lake Tibet,  Little Fish Lake,  Pocket Lake and Wauseon Bay, the chain has been recognized as an “Outstanding Florida Waters” by the Florida Department of Environmental Regulation for having high water quality and in turn, excellent and wide spread animal habitat.
