A Large Close Community 

Located at the north end of the Markham Woods luxury home corridor in Seminole County, Heathrow is one of the largest private guarded and gated communities in Central Florida.  While it is not an exclusive retirement community – many of its approximately 6,000 residents are active retired Seniors.  

With such a retirement population living within its gates, there are several active social clubs for Seniors living in Heathrow. 

The R&R Club

This club meets monthly and regularly invites guest speakers on topics of interest to Seniors.  It sponsors and arranges field trips to museums and other sites of interest.  In addition,  located at Heathrow’s Sawyer Lake Park, there is a full scale shuffle board court and bocci ball court.   Here the club regularly gathers to play and host events from other communities.   

 The Heathrow Women’s Club

This club is made up almost entirely of retired Seniors and is very active in the community.  The club regularly puts on charity events including The Heathrow Charity Walk and the Black&White Gala. 

The Women’s Club also organizes, sponsors and hosts a variety of other senior-related activities – for both men and women.  These include Mah Jogg, Bridge, Canasta and Bunko play at the Sawyer Lake Clubhouse.  

In addition, the Women’s Club organizes a “Dine-Around” once a month where the “host” has the group over for cocktails and then the group then goes out to a nearby area restaurant chosen by the host.

The Heathrow Book Club

This club meets monthly at the Sawyer Lake Park Clubhouse to discuss the chosen book for the month.  Members share opinions and views regarding the various reading selections made.

Other Amenities Plentiful

In addition, Heathrow has a separate golf and country club complete with 12 tennis courts, a full sized swimming pool and snack-cabana-bar and a well appointed work-out facility.  Tennis tournaments are held on a regular basis and the pool and work out facilities hours are long and flexible.  The golf course is a full length 18 hole that regularly hosts tournaments including PGA Q School and Nike Tour and the “Tee It Up for Life” tournament hosted by the PGA’s Chris DiMarco to benefit children with cancer. 

Heathrow also has a full-sized park complete with soccer and baseball fields, basketball courts, shuffleboard, bocci ball, a dock out onto Sawyer Lake along with three covered pavilions for BBQs and socializing, and a recently renovated clubhouse.  But best of all – it has a full sized and well equipped playground for the grandchildren !
